"Ok I know this is a joke but..."

submission: 2'29''
date: March 27, 2008

I know this is a joke, but i'm getting a little tired of it to be honest. This has been done so many times it is ridiculous. Anyway, I was under the impression that Cages 4'33 was meant to be a live performance, so that the music was in the sound of the audience (coughing etc).

I'm sorry if it is me not being able to take a joke, and it probably is, but this one is on deaths door. What ever will someone do next, play it in reverse, 'arrange' it? No matter how many time this 'music' tries to be spun, it is still the same old cliche s***.

Author's Response:

Well, this was only partial meant to be a joke. Mostly I wanted to see how people would react to this submission.

Yes, Cage's performance was a live performance. But it works here as well, I think. Anything you can hear outside (or inside) can be the music you are listening to (cars passing by, someone walking around, kids playing outside, etc.). But we aren't aware of those noises because we are busy doing other things (like listening to music ^^).

Anyway, thanks for the review!

"OK here a review..."

submission: Green Goblin

The intro is phat, but it doesn't quite feel heavy enough when it drops in. The beat is pretty much perfect though. I really can't flaw it, it's well eq'ed and got enough variation to really keep it interesting. The backing synths are really nice too.

However, I think the bass could use a little work on it. I reckon it would make a big difference if you even just layed a subbass underneath it. Don't get me wrong, I like what you've done with the wobble sounds, but it just doesn't quite sound deep enough...

Overall this is a nice tune. I can tell you've spend a long time on this. It's really interesting and got loads going on, I just think the bass is letting it down ever so slightly.

Anyway it's an 8/10 and a 5/5 from me man as I think it's current score (1.78) doesn't represent it in the slightest. Good work man, keep them coming.

"Very nice tune man..."

date: March 25, 2008

This was a really nice tune, very well produced and at a good pace. I personally though it was a bit lacking in bass. I mean, I know there wasn't a bass, but I reckon a really soft fluid type of bass, just to keep it flowing would have worked fantastically here.

This however is my only criticism, the rest was really well done. Congratulations on a phat tune!

Author's Response:

yeah there wasn't supposed to be a strong bass, but in doing so i left out any bass at all. I may do a remake of this song and add some low end to fill it out.

Hmmm... it's pretty different. If i'm honest i'm not really sure what to make it. I think I like it. Yeah I do like it. It's a bit all over the place whilst being well organised.

Good work, it's definitely different.

"A review for you..."

Right, the introduction is sounding quite promising. Although that piano sounds a little basic to me. I think it maybe could have worked better as a different sound playing that tune. The ambient background pads however are spot on. Really deep and give this piece alot of thickness. I'm a fan of the main synth. It works nicely.

Perhaps the drums could have been a little louder? I think that towards the end especially, you really need those powerful drums to give it a bit more of a climax. It's a very happy tune, it's well organised and maintains interest until the end.

Over it's a good song. Good work.

Author's Response:

Piano sounds basic huh? Pianos usually tend to sound basic anyway ;). Well I doubt I'll change that, as it's much of the essence of the tune (for me).

About the drums- I had a lot of problems with the toms, making them sound audible without distorting the whole thing up. I'll experiment more with it abit later I guess. Thanks for pointing that one out.

Thanks for the review!!

I'm afraid this isn't going to be a very good review as I don't really have any criticisms. I have downloaded, and with your permission may be DJing this at my end of university celebration.

Thanks for submitting.

"Really nice tune man"

submission: Sick Day
date: March 18, 2008

This is a very flashesque tune. I can really see this being used in an animation. It's catchy and something that gets your head moving. It's also sort of mystical as well as being driving.

I can't really fault this piece, although I reckon it would sound really awesome played with live instruments.

Good work man!

BodyBreak [DubStep]

"Nice tune... but a little repetitive."

date: March 14, 2008

This is a heavy tune, but it seems to be a little minimal, even for dubstep. I reckon even the slightest little touch of reverberated melody over the top could give it the variation it needs.

Good work though, always nice to hear some fresh sounds.

James.

"Nice slow bass...."

date: March 14, 2008

This a pretty nice tune man. Nice chugging wet bass going on, which is awesome. There does however seem to be a little bit of distortion in certain parts. You may want to be a little more careful when checking the levels.

All in all it's a nice tune. Good to get wrecked to ;)
